EFFICIENT INNOVATION ACTIVITY AS A PLEDGE OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF RUSSIA

Background. The concept of sustainable development of separate states and the whole human civilization takes on special actuality in contemporary conditions of increasing technogenic environmental impact. Current situation worldwide is characterized by critical tension when struggle for resources may escalate into military involvement on both a local and a global scale. Innovation development of society is becoming practically the only way to decrease the above mentioned tension when diplomatic efforts appear to be unsuccessful and moral standards give the pas to material claims because of significant disparity in the level of development specific to separate regions, various states or interstate alliances. The purpose of this article is to substantiate the need for maximum state support for innovation and related private initiatives as the optimal and most effective strategy for the development of Russia. Materials and methods. The methodological basis of the publication was the materials of the report «Our Common Future» of the UN World Commission on Environment and Development, as well as the UN Sustainable Development Program until 2030. Results. The analysis of the application of the principles of environmental protection and sustainable development in Russia was carried out. The analysis of innovation implementation has shown that Russia uses the experience of world countries in order to minimize the negative impact of problematic factors that have to be faced when implementing sustainable development measures. Conclusions. The analysis of the implementation of the principles of environmental protection and sustainable development in Russia has shown that the principles formulated in the UN strategy have practical application, including in the introduction of innovative technologies.
